Check the smoothness of your concrete basement floor. Wipe away the remaining dust with a damp cloth. It does require floor prep to smooth the floor otherwise the surface of the sub floor will telegraph through within 6 months. Most compounds require that you first coat the floor with a primer.

Use sandpaper to even the patches of rough concrete. With years of use though a concrete floor will wear down with the once smooth surface becoming roughened or damaged. Installing a tile floor in all or part of your basement lets you have some fun with design while still quickly covering up existing concrete floors. Self leveling concrete is a liquid mortar that you pour and spread onto a sloped rough uneven but structurally sound floor.

Concrete floors are common fixtures inside of the garage but with modern home designs becoming more and more appealing they re slowly make their way inside. A well finished concrete floor should be comfortable to use as well as strong and durable.
